Castle of Montlaur and St Médard chapel
During a hike, discover the ruins of the Château de Montlaur at 768m.
Dungeon, Romanesque door, more recent corner towers, and the Saint Médard chapel near the ruins, restored in 1988.
To go from Coucouron to Aubenas, de Montlaur followed the natural road, the Ardèche and Mayres. At the approach of this village, a strategic point attracted their attention, the nipple of Saint-Médard, inaccessible from everywhere, except from the north. This made them build a fortress to protect the valley and the village of Mayres, their property.
